Autor : Ramos Arroyo, Julio
Descripción : Reflecting on Diamela Eltit’s novel, Sumar (2018), Julio Ramos revisits the netting that binds life, literature and politics. In his lecture, Ramos interrogates the forms and categories that make up the bodies of a political unit, within the framework of speculative fiction and scopic environments, as well as the transformations of work and life under contemporary cybernetic and pharmacological regimes. Ramos observes that Eltit’s novel distances itself from the more recognizable practices of contemporary meta-fiction, and rather revitalizes fiction writing as a “craft of language through the relay of voices as the very matter of the act of novelizing”. In particular, Ramos’ reading highlights the danger of the extinction of an entire guild, that of street vendors: the last guardians of a certain form of material life that is vanishing under immaterial, hygienic, securitarian and cruel regimes.2020-01-01T00:00:00ZEl no saber la palabra precisa según La muerte feliz de William Carlos Williams, de Marta Aponte (Dossier: Producir presente: tocar el cuerpo, escritura, mujeres, paisajes, afectos.
Descripción : The article centers on Puerto Rican writer, Marta Aponte’s reading of La muerte feliz de William Carlos Williams (2015). The novel fictionalizes the poet’s search for an American Idiom or an “American expression”, and his ties with his mother, Raquel Helena Hoheb Monsanto, born to parents from the Lesser Antilles in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. The author asks herself such questions as: What happens when the absence of the precise word imposes itself on the written stroke? And what does this event mean when those unpronounceable and impossibly spelled words constitute other forms of naming one’s mother? The article explores the complex relationship between cultural heritage and the memory that supports it with respect to the language that materializes and writes that received heritage, where the native tongue is reinvented in the transit of travel, exile, and dispossession: between the desire of escaping and the need to take root.2020-01-01T00:00:00ZMujeres como islas: la herencia cultural y religiosa afrocaribeña en las obras de Mayra Santos Febres, Wendy Guerra y Rita Indiana (Dossier: Producir presente: tocar el cuerpo, escritura, mujeres, paisajes, afectos.
Descripción : This article aims to establish a dialogue between three Caribbean writers (Mayra Santos Febres, Wendy Guerra and Rita Indiana) that deal with the issue of Afro-Caribbean female identities in relation to the syncretic religions born from the encounter between Catholicism and African cosmogonies. Through the novels Our Lady of the Night (2006), Negra (2013) and La Mucama de Omicunlé (2015), the aim is to analyze the feminine archetypes proposed by those spiritual traditions gathered under the common definition of santeria and the role that women and homosexuals play in them. The three authors propose an intersectional look at the emancipatory path that will lead the heroines of their stories to rescue as independent Afro-descendant women, within the framework of hegemonic value systems that tend to “neutralize” them, silencing their voices.2020-01-01T00:00:00ZGiovanna Rivero, pensar con la Jovencita terrible y la esquizogamia en la nueva narrativa suramericana (Dossier: Producir presente: tocar el cuerpo, escritura, mujeres, paisajes, afectos.
Descripción : The author begins by challenging the conventional perception of “the young girl” as a social and historical subject, from a perspective that invites us to “listen to her talk” and to “think with her”. From here, and from the practice of a “desiring theory” (that does not capture identities but casts becomings), the article analyzes various emblematic narratives to appreciate the “anti-oedipal tessitura” of the young girls who appear as their protagonists: the protagonist of Jorge Luis Borges’ famous short story, “Emma Zunz”, certain fables and prose poems by Marosa di Giorgio, the novel “Papi” (2005), by Rita Indiana, author of what she calls the “Trilogy of Unbearable Girls”. Special attention is brought to, 98 segundos sin sombra (2016), a novel by the Bolivian author Giovanna Rivero, which presents not so much the writer as a young girl, but the young girl as a writer, as well as some of her writings from the book of short stories Para comerte mejor (2016). The desiring theory produced by Giovanna Rivero and her characters does not lead to certainties but to growing uncertainties. Her stories are among the most suggestive and mysterious when it comes to women protagonists in Latin American literature.2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
